Gary's Windows 9x Program Installation Tips
There is nothing more frustrating that installing a program, and then it does not work.
There a few things you should do before installing any software on Windows 9x.
- Read the program installation instructions before you install any program!
- Everyone can moan about that one... but reading will curtail installation problems.
- -
- Disable virus protection software during installation.
- -
- Turn off screen savers and energy saving timers.
- -
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Del
- - The Task Manager will pop up
- - Remove all programs in the list except for Explorer and Systray
- Note: Some program will exit immediately, others may take several seconds... be patient.
- -
- Note: If you had any problem while booting, start over with a clean shutdown and startup.
After the program is installed... shutdown and reboot (regardless if you are asked to do so or not).
If you are computer literate and know how to back up the Windows registry and
system configuration, do so before each installation. (I wish I had taken my
own advise on that a few times... ugh!)
